The Community Mobilization and Economic Empowerment of Vulnerable Women is a project led by UN Women in cooperation with the Embassy of Japan in Beirut and the Lebanese Ministry of Social Affairs.
This project is implemented throughout the country in 13 community centers. It aims to economically empower Lebanese and Syrian women by strengthening their capacities to claim their rights through increasing access to economic recovery opportunity, training, and engagement in community life. The project will target approximately 740 beneficiaries that will be identified according to vulnerability criteria and will result in enhanced access to the labor market and will improve their entrepreneurship, business and marketing skills. Personal development sessions include socio-economic empowerment, leadership, communication, negotiation, and time management skills. Vocational training sessions focus on areas that are based on market needs and include mobile phone repair, sewing, embroidery, crochet, computer skills, English language training, photography, video production, and cosmetology. The project also includes a placement program and job creation opportunities through linking women to the private sector or through funding small income generating initiatives. In addition, a protection component including gender based violence awareness, self defense and first aid training.
